Reed Making Truths from Thin the Tip (aka. Dr. B.)

1.  The knife must be sharp.  All. The. Time.
2.  The tip must always respond first when crowing.
3.  Loose sides are the scourge of reed making.
4.  Crow, play, crow, then scrape.
5.  Never make reeds when you are tired, frustrated, or mad at the world.
6.  Sometimes it really is the cane that's the problem, not what you've done to it.
7.  Make reeds consistently and you will never be without something that works.
8.  (Logically, after No. 7.) Practicing is a lot more fun on reeds that work.
9.  Tying matters.  Take your time, seat the cane properly, and make sure it does not leak.
10.  Good lighting is a reed maker's best friend, especially when you actually use it.
